Q NOTES # 1,000: Sadder Day Edition

I finally reached the milestone: It's been 1,000 days since I started living in semi-quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rest of the country wrote the COVID threat off as old news months ago, but I don't think that's realistic yet.

When the first book about Joe Biden's presidency is written, its title should be Nothing Ever Came Easy. The Democrats spent much of this year preparing to fight their way through the 2022 midterm elections. Based on the final results, they were successful overall. They held vulnerable Senate seats in Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, then flipped another one in Pennsylvania to reach 51-49.

The new Democratic majority was barely confirmed when attention ho' Kyrsten Sinema (should be Cinema or Enema) proclaimed her switch from (D) to Independent. She apparently agreed to caucus with the Democrats in exchange for retaining her committee seats in the next session.

There's speculation that this was Cinema's strategic move. She probably couldn't survive an expected primary challenge in 2024 as a Democrat, and she probably believes making the switch right now will guarantee she's handled with kid gloves for the remainder of her current term.
