Much of the current political analysis concentrates on the frenzy that the most extreme elements of the hardcore right are working themselves into, and its implications for the 2010 and 2012 elections. One school of thought is that the Republicans will have an advantage since the teabaggers and similar party factions will be foaming at the mouth by then, while Democrats are discouraged and lifeless. The other school of thought is that the GOP is rapidly stripping itself down to its "purest" form, with only the most radical extremists welcome. Instead of broadening its appeal, the Republican Party is narrowing. It's too soon to start making predictions, and a few unexpected shifts in economic forecasts could change the climate overnight, but if I had to guess, my guess would be that the frenzy will get the Republicans back into control of at least the House, and maybe the Senate, in 2011.
After another year of seeing conservatives at their worst, Americans will remember why they hate the motherfuckers in the first place and Republicans will be sent back to minority status in 2013.
