Grandpa acts nice

Tonight Ace will run a 30-second campaign ad in some of the battleground states, in which he congratulates Obama on his nomination and is slightly referential to MLK. I've seen it, and at first glance it seems like a somewhat classy gesture from a campaign that hasn't produced many of them. Then it occurred to me that this shop is still being run by Rove clones, and I started thinking "What's the angle ?"

You know there is one. First of all, why a television ad ? A sound bite on the network evening news would've been easy, since Ace has the same media entourage as Barry. Nope. Some bloggers have suggested that Repubs hyping this ad all day will have more people aware of it than will ever actually see it, and if Barry criticizes Ace in his address to the convention tonight, the media will be slamming him until Sunday for being ungracious. Yeah, that makes sense.

Ace needs to learn a hard lesson: Hiring The Wild Rovers has put him in the same fix as the little boy who cried wolf. Nothing he does from now on should ever be trusted or accepted at face value; there's a nasty, self-serving motive behind all of it and never forget it.
