Q NOTES # 352: Mandates

Greg Abbott, a worthless political hack who is unfortunately also governor of Texas, has decreed that the state will no longer mandate any protocols developed to end the pandemic (masking, social distancing, occupancy restrictions, etc). Instead, in the name of individual freedom, Texans will be responsible for their own protection with no state interference.

I'm sorry, Greg, but this is Texas we're talking about, where the basic stupidity rate is well above 50 percent. As a rule of thumb, nearly six out of every ten Texans are ignorant yahoos, dumber than a bag of rocks, or Cheez Doodle voters. It's hard enough to get them to act right with a book full of mandates. If they don't give a fuck about their own health, they damn sure won't do anything to protect mine.

This morning I was in Walmart to get some essential supplies, and as usual, everyone I saw, staff and customers, was masked. This is what I'm accustomed to, since I shop at Walmart at least four times each month, and it's the main reason I shop there. I imagine at least some of the shoppers are masked because it's one of the safety rules we're all required to observe. Now Greg Abbott is basically saying "It's up to you to decide."

Let's see what happens.
