I'm not sure what it says about the nation in general or the Republican Party in particular, but Newt Gingrich is the first one to announce that he may be available in 2012. Newt is such a slime with such a seedy record as a politician and as a human being, I can't imagine that he would be the GOP nominee, much less elected president. The bad part is, I thought the same thing about G.W. Bush. Twice. Relying on American voters in national elections is risky business.
Looking at things positively, the best thing about Newt as nominee would be that he knocked Sarah Palin out of the spot.
