This story from the AP falls into the category of sobering news. The conventional wisdom is that high unemployment will be the downfall of Obama and the Democratic Party, but if this writer is correct, the GOP revival that follows may be short-lived. My thinking is that people who want to work need to learn how to develop the technology and build the machines that will replace them. Already, people are checking themselves out at stores like Walmart, meaning that the demand for cashiers has been slashed dramatically due to new technology. Eventually, even robots will be built by robots, and there won't be any need for human labor whatsoever.
My three grandsons are growing up in the new world of technology, and their idea of a great toy is an old, used-up remote control device. My oldest grandson already knows as much about digital cameras as I do, and he's just started kindergarten.
