Considering myself warned

The online version of the Houston Chronicle is set up to allow readers to post comments on news articles as well as items on the editorial page. Sometimes there'll be 800-900 comments on a particular news story. Just for the hell of it, I may skim through them seeking pearls of wisdom, and this morning I found the one from "chechnya" pasted above (what's the significance of THAT screen name ?)

There are numerous potential problems with a Hillbillary presidency, but being forced to listen to tejano music isn't one that had occurred to me. I guess that would be a drawback when we start making "illegal citizens" into U.S. citizens.

If stunning stupidity was contagious, we'd be forced to quarantine large sections of Texas.

  1. Actually, I tried to learn Spanish a few times. Once in weekend courses at a local community college, but mostly just self-taught. I've got about a dozen Spanish lesson books and a CD. Never took though. I never tried it on the Hispanic community - one I didn't want to slaughter their language, and two didn't want to make an ass out of myself.

Sounds like if HRC gets elected, I might have additional motivation.

  2. Actually the article you quoted and your own comments show a lot of ignorance. Tejano music is sung by Americans, mostly texans (ah tejanos) for a texan (ah tejano again) audience. Newly arrived immigrants would tend to listen to norteno or music categories, but not Tejano music. Get a grip there is a difference.

  3. The comment by lefty ray reminds me of the old saying: There's always the two percent that don't get the word.

  4. the closest i found to 'chechnya' is 'chechenya', naming the troubled country russia doesn't want to relieve it's grip on...i wonder what that tells us about the commentator...laughs

anyway, one should see it from the positive side: more legal citizens means more taxes paid...and that's probably what greedy 'hillbilly' is after...aaahaha
