More on that bitter brew

Bill Clinton Flashback: "All These Economically Insecure White People...Are Scared To Death" - Politics on The Huffington Post:

"Here's how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn't buy it. And when it's delivered by -- it's true that when it's delivered by a 46-year-old black man named Barack Obama (laughter), then that adds another layer of skepticism (laughter). [...]

But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there's not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The Obama quote above is being placed here for two reasons. First, to make sure it's available for future reference. Dimbulbs like Sean Hannity and Grover Norquist are trying to present a case that this is history-changing stuff since it guarantees Obama's defeat. Second, because there's a minor possibility that someone who looks at the blog may have missed the story in all its original splendor.

Hillbillary's also milking this for all it's worth. She's even going as far as piggybacking anecdotes about her childhood experience with guns and hunting onto her criticism of Obama's alleged elitism. Is the woman so out of touch with reality she doesn't understand that people who vote on the basis of the gun control issue will never, ever vote for her ? They'll be voting for Top Gun en masse, and will ensure that he rolls over Hillary like a panzer division rolling through a meadow full of daisies.

  1. first, thanks for saving this quote for future reference, s.o. definitely had to...

i've also read today in the nyt that 'hillaryous' is accusing obama of elitism because of this quote. however, i feel frank 'elitism' a lot more refreshing than her sneaky opportunism... and if we differ content from style he does have a point... at least that's the way i see it...
