Anathema no longer

Today I had to make my weekly run to Walmart, and for a change decided to listen to a little right-wing talk radio during the drive. I had sworn off that crap for a few months, trying to preserve what remains of my mental health. I immediately noticed a change in tone on Limbaugh's program. A few months ago, during the GOP primaries, the people who make a living pushing Republican talking points on AM radio were all getting aroused by Willard Romney. Ace McCain was the proverbial turd in the punchbowl, a regular persona non grata among most of them. Limbaugh routinely badmouthed Ace and joined the other unindicted co-conspirators in a steady appeal to the listening audience to vote for Crisco. Ann Coulter got a lot of attention after shrilly announcing she'd vote for Mrs Clinton if Ace was the GOP nominee (back when Mrs Clinton was still a top contender).

Willard's LDS affiliation was just too much for most Repub voters though, and he soon joined the other short-lived Great White Hopes on the sideline. Ace became the presumptive nominee, and soon thereafter I stopped listening to the radio chatter.

Something's happened since then. The Republicans, as they always do, have closed ranks. Circled the wagons. Gone to the mattresses. Gotten lined up behind their guy. In short, gotten ready to win another election. I'm telling you, the Dems could learn a lot from the RW if they could pull their heads out of their posterior orifices long enough. The one defining distinction between Republicans and Democrats is that Repubs want to win presidential elections and know how to do it, and Dems don't, on either count.

Yesterday, Wes Clark (my personal favorite Dem and preferred presidential candidate) made a comment that getting shot down while flying a jet fighter wasn't something that particularly qualified someone to be president. Hell, Jorge flew jet fighters and never even got shot down and no one could say he was qualified to be president, so Clark's remark looks like a no-brainer to me. Today, the conservative noise factory is pretending to be in full metal snit over this so-called insult and Barry, looking more like a typical spineless Dem weakling every day, has issued the standard disavowal. Am I the only one who remembers the 2004 campaign and the Swift Boat Vets For Truth ? Barry should tell Rush to GFH.

  1. It appears that it’s all down to Alaska Gov Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney, and team Romney fears Palin now has the best shot, so Romney camp is mounting a blogosphere-wide assault via Politico.

The tip-off that Politico is just a “promote Romney” piece is that it mentions EVERY NAME in the next two tiers of Veep prospects EXCEPT SARAH PALIN!!! — even names far more unlikely than Palin (since Romney camp knows Palin is the ONLY ONE who tops — I’ll say tops by far — Romney as McCain’s best pick).

Bottom line, Romney and Politico fear Palin most — as do the Dems and the MSM. (By the way, the Dems and MSM do not fear Romney the most — which says a lot.)

AOL, a main on-line pro-Obama/pro-Dem player, is now carrying the Politico piece promoting Romney buzz.

Clearly AOL wants McCain and the GOP to lose the general elction — hence they gladly promote Romney (no mention of Palin).

Also, CNN had Romney — kind of out of the blue — attacking Obama. Again, CNN, wanting McCain and the GOP to lose, gladly promotes Romney (to attempt to avert the Palin threat).

All the media frenzy which will surround the remarkable Palin “story” — essentially free to McCain — will be worth millions and millions of dollars of coverage and PR (more money than Romney would provide anyway).
